  15.     Thank you for trying Back Again/2, the first professional-quality
  16.     shareware backup software available for OS/2 2.1!

  18.     Back Again/2 is a 32-bit backup utility for OS/2 2.1 that fully
  19.     supports HPFS, long filenames, and extended attributes as well as
  20.     processing files which are currently in use.
  21.  
  22.     All OS/2 logical devices are supported for backup, including but not
  23.     limited to Novell Netware, LAN Server, and NFS network drives,
  24.     floppy diskette drives, Bernoulli boxes, magneto optical devices,
  25.     and more.  In short, if you can do a 'DIR' command against your
  26.     device, you can back up to it.

  28.     For floppy diskettes, Back Again/2 can use a special skewed-sector
  29.     format which, when combined with data compression, can backup 3-4MB
  30.     per minute on 1.44MB drives.  With 2.88MB drives, Back Again/2 can
  31.     easily backup 6-8MB per minute!

  34.     System Requirements

  36.     Back Again/2 is designed to operate on machines running IBM OS/2
  37.     v2.1 or later.

  39.     Back Again/2 does not require anything more than the minimum OS/2
  40.     system configuration, although it will run better (faster) when used
  41.     on an greater-than-minimum system.  This generally means the
  42.     following :

  44.         Intel 386/25 CPU or greater
  45.         6MB memory
  46.         VGA display
  47.         One 360KB, 1.2MB, 720KB, 1.44MB, or 2.88MB floppy diskette

  79.     Installing Back Again/2
  80.     -----------------------
  81.     If you received this software in compressed (.ZIP, .ARJ, etc.) form,
  82.     simply run the INSTALL.EXE program from the directory where the
  83.     file was uncompressed.

  85.     If you received this software on diskette, simply open the Drive A
  86.     object (there is usually a shadow on your OS/2 desktop) and then
  87.     double-click on the install icon.

  89.     Installation is straight forward.  The default installation path
  90.     is on the system's OS/2 boot drive in a directory called "\BA2".
  91.     You may change this to your liking; we recommend that the software
  92.     be installed on your OS/2 system partition but it does not have to
  93.     be.

  95.     You can also have the installation program create a folder with the
  96.     Back Again/2 user's guide, this read.me file, and the Back Again/2
  97.     program object on the desktop.  Additionally, the installation
  98.     program can create a shadow of the Back Again/2 program on your
  99.     desktop.

  101.     By default, the LIBPATH, PATH, and HELP environment variables set
  102.     in CONFIG.SYS are updated to include the Back Again/2 directory. You
  103.     may uncheck the option if you wish.  If the CONFIG.SYS file is
  104.     updated, the old CONFIG.SYS file will be renamed CONFIG.BA2.

  107.     Configuring Back Again/2
  108.     ------------------------
  109.     You may begin to use Back Again/2 once the installation is
  110.     completed.  However, for optimal performance,  you may want to alter
  111.     the default settings in the preferences notebook.  For further
  112.     information about advanced configuration of Back Again/2, please see
  113.     the online user's guide.

  116.     Registering Back Again/2
  117.     ------------------------
  118.     We had a difficult time deciding how to distribute Back Again/2.
  119.     Initially, we talked about distributing a fully enabled copy as
  120.     shareware but after talking to other shareware authors we decided
  121.     that we would issue a limited demonstration version of the software
  122.     as shareware, with the ability to fully enable it over the
  123.     telephone. As a result, Back Again/2 as shipped is limited to
  124.     backing up 2MB at a time.  No other limitations exist and even with
  125.     the 2MB limit, Back Again/2 is still useful for day-to-day backups
  126.     of small files.

  128.     When you register your copy of Back Again/2 via telephone, we will
  129.     give you a code that will fully enable your copy of Back Again/2 for
  130.     your use until the permanently enabled version arrives on diskette.
